"Hollingshead, originally of Hellins in the township of Sutton, Chester, England. The heirs of Sir Hugh Hollinshead, the last of the elder branch, at an early period married into the Family of Ravenscroft: the next line were the Hollinsheads of Cophurst, whose representation was Ralph Hilinhed, the historian whose sister and heir married Corbet, and from the Cophurst family the Hollinheads of Beeg Lawton and Heywood derived. The family seens to have originated in "East Cheshire England".While these authorities do not agree, Sutton being in West Cheshire, England, it is safe to locate the family in Cheshire, England." This compiled by Mrs. Ila L. Bauer of Cedar City, Utah history 1964-1965, Granddughter of Louise Aurelia Hollingshead. Some of her writing contain writing of A.M. Stockhouse.

William Hollingshead's father was John Hollingshed b. about 1474 and mother was Ellen (P'Son) (Catherine) Parson b. about 1482. William had 7 brothers and 2 sisters, all born in England.
