John Thornton

  General Notes:

At a family reunion in 1995, a passenger list from one of the latervoyages of the group of voyages termed "Mayflower" voyages was passedaround as a possible link between our family on this side of the pondand the family in England. I believe the name was John Thornton and hewas a carpenter. The year 1639 seems a reasonable date and may be theconnection we are looking for. The family line is the one descendedfrom Paul Thornton who came to Ontario, Canada from New York state.Any feedback?

1692: John Thornton appears on the membership role of the Sabbatarian Church in Newport, Rhode Island.

1695 (after): John Thornton died.

JOHN1 THORNTON emigrated abt 1634, and died Aft. 1692 in Providence, RI. He married SARAH THURSTON.

Notes for JOHN THORNTON:
1639: He had 10 acres granted, being in the employ of John COGGESHALL.
1648: Oct 12, one of the twelve members of the First Bapt. Church
1655: Freeman
1679: Jan. 10 Providence, wrote to Samuel Hubbard at Newport who replied "Please remember by respect
unto Mr. Roger Williams" etc.
1680: Deputy
1683: Wrote to Hubbard to tell him of the death of Roger Williams.
1692: Mar. 7. He made complaint with his son John, to the Town Council on behalf of his grandchildren,
Zachariah FIELDS' children, that they might be bound out to good places and educated.

John married Sara Thurston about 1659 in Province, Rhode Island. (Sara Thurston was born about 1669 in Province, Rhode Island and died in 1692 in Province, Rhode Island.)
