bullet  General Notes:

The following information was obtained form the Bolton Library, Bolton,England -
which holds copies of the IGI and the 1881 Census Index for all ofEngland, and
St Catherine's Index for 1837 containing compulsary registration of allbirths,
marriages and deaths in England and Wales up to 1947.

1) John Brown Chatly (note surname spelling difference) married AnnNuttall at
St Mary's Chruch, Bury, England on 01 Aug 1802. However, a fairassumption would
be that the poor Parish Priest had to decide how to spell the name at thetime of
the wedding as most people were illerate in that area back then and, based on the
way they speak around Bury (strong accents), "Chatly" and "Chatterley"could
easily have been confussed.

2) It is suspected that Ann Nuttal is from Manchester, England. Furtherresearch
is required.

3) The five Children listed as born to John and Ann Chatley, all born inBury, are:
24 Oct 1802 - Margaret
06 Nov 1803 - John - A 2nd John was born in 1816 ergo, this one probablydied young.
23 Sep 1810 - Mary
11 Feb 1816 - John
23 Aug 1818 - Sarah - This is probably the baptism date as Sarah'sbrithdate is
is 12 July 1818. Also, show her birth location asRadcliffe,
not Bury so again, this supports the fact that thisis the
baptism date.

4) The only entries for Chatley were either for John and Ann or, for aWilliam
Chatley and Ann Barnes who were married on 10 Janurary 1803 also at Buryand
their 9 children. It is very possible that John and William werebrothers.
