Dr. B. C. Holtzclaw notes that Henry must have been the first Asbury inVirginia. He was probably the son of Francis Asbury (who died 1662) ofKent Co., MD.

Henry came from Maryland ca. 1678 (Westmoreland Co. - 27 February 1678,Order book 1675/6 - 1688/9, p. 151.) Mentioned in court suit beforeMaryland Provincial Ct. 18 June 1678, Promissory Note from ThomasRobinson to Henry Asbury was in question. (Archives of Maryland, Vol. 67,pp 377/378)

It is possible that Henry Asbury was a son of Francis Asbury of Kent Co.Md., who was granted land in Kent Co. in 1681, was drowned there in 1682,and whose wife Mary and daughter Mary are briefly mentioned in theMaryland records (Warrant C.B. No. 2, fol. 375, Maryland Land Office:Kent Co. Bonds, Box 1, Folder 55, Archives; "Archives of Maryland" Vol.17, p.91; Baldwin "Md. Calendar of Wills", Vol 1, p. 182
